Computers for Rural Children - Maharashtra

Posted by: "sudhir.ssmandal@gmail.com" sudhir.ssmandal@gmail.com

Wed Nov 25, 2009

Respected Sir / Madam,

Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal (SSM) is a village based
voluntary organization established in 1959 with a view to educate and
empower the deprived rural people. We run one of the largest rural
residential schools in India imparting education to 4000 rural children.
SSM provides a homely shelter for 500 orphans taking care of their
education and rehabilitation. Please find us at www.ssmandal.net

Efforts are being made to develop potential qualities of the students
through various activities. Presently, the rural children are lagging
behind due to the digital divide. Though talented, but being in rural
area, these poor and under privileged are deprived of today's basic
educational facility. We are not short of professionals, nor of bright
students. But due to high cost of systems, we are stranded from giving
this rightful education to the students. Recently we have received Best
Village Knowledge Centre award by the hands of Ms.Rufina Fernandis, CEO,
NASSCOM Foundation, New Delhi.

We have a computer lab with 10 PCs with internet access which is not
proportionate to the total no. of students. To update the lab with
enough no. of computers is the earnest necessity to expand the outreach.
I earnestly request you to donate us 10 used or new computer systems
which will be a constructive effort in the direction of our goal.
Donations made to SSM are 100% exempted under 35 AC of Income Tax Act.
It will be our proud and pleasure to acknowledge name of your well-known
organization the computer lab of our school. I hopefully look forward
for your positive response in this context.

Engineering Course Fees - Kerala

From: vinoj B S
Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2009
Subject: Sponsoring Education for my niece

Dear Sir / Madam,

This for my niece who is excellent in education. She got 82% marks in Std XII (Science Stream) and got an admission in Engineering (Computer) thru Govt merit list. Due to fees hike from Kerala govt this year around Rs. 25000 from Rs 4500 per semester, my brother had no decison to withdraw her from that. Presently she joined BSc Physics in a collage in kollam, kerala.

Financially, my brother is very weak. He has two daughters, which this is the elder one. He is working in Tamil Nadu in a cashew processing factory.

Can your organisation help her to fulfill her dreams if she tries for engineering this year thru merit list.
She is most interested in engineering than medicine.

Kindly help us or guide a way.

Thanking You

B S Vinoj

NGO Manav Sadhna's Greeting Card Catalogue

Some of the prettiest cards that I've seen and received were made at Manav Sadhna.

To read a bit about this NGO: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/karmayog/message/50647

- Chandni

From: Sachi Maniar <sachimaniar@gmail.com>

Dear friends!
Asalaam - Namaste !

For the past one month, I am working with Manavsadhna - an organization based in Ahmedabad in the Gandhi Ashram. The Organization does some really hardcore, grass root work with women and children in the slums of Ahmedabad and in the villages of Kutch. To mention the least, I have been deeply touched and moved by their efforts to make a difference in the society.I am writing to get some support for the Earn and Learn Project run by the organization.

Earn N learn project has been running for almost 10 years with the mission to give children who work on streets—shoe polishers, rag pickers and vendors—an alternative to income generation coupled with the opportunity to attend school. The children learn how to make greeting cards, paper bags and more - out of handmade paper. Through the combination of a nurturing environment, mentorship, nutrition and tution programs, many of the children who have come through this program have dramatically decreased habits such as chewing tobacco, swearing, fighting and worse. They have learned the value of hygiene, sanitation, working together, self-respect, hard work, creativity and much more. Earn N Learn gives these children an honest chance at a brighter future.  (To learn more check out our new website at www.earnlearn.org). I am attaching the Build-Your-Own-Card 2009 catalogue and another catalogue with more card designs.

The challenge for the organization has been in maintaining a constant stream of orders to ensure sustainable work for the children. Hence, I request you to extend support in whichever way possible. We are accepting both individual and bulk orders in Mumbai. So, apart from personal purchases, if you know of companies that send out gifts for new years and would like to support the project please pass it on !!

For individual orders, Cards come in packets of 5, each packet costs Rs 75.

For bulk orders, we can custom make the cards and pack it the way you want it..

It would be nice to have all the Christmas card orders by November 25th. Cards would be delivered to you by Dec 10th.

As of this year, each card is signed by the child who made it so customers can go online and learn more about each child.

Any support is deeply appreciated ...   For further information you can contact me on +91 9920877443.

Thank you :)
Smiles :)
In service
Sach :)

Domestic Help's Son's Education - Bihar

From: Priyanka Dalal <priyankawriting@gmail.com>
Date: Mon, 9 Nov 2009
Subject: for Fund a Cause

Hello,

For fund a cause:

I have a domestic help who comes from a small village in Bihar. He works
from 6 in the morning (car-washing) to 11 at night (washing vessels).
Domestic helpers don't get any holidays in India, so he is working this way
7 days a week. He earns about 6000 per month.
He has a son in 12th STD, studying in a Bihar city close to his village. His
education alone costs about 4000 a month including lodging, food and
education fees.

Needless to say he barely saves anything. He is already 40+. Would be really
good if we could raise some money for him, so as to aid his sons education
and also for him and his wife who is in the village alone, this way they can
have some sort of money in their old age!

You can contact me at priyankawriting@gmail.com, if you are interested in
chipping in I can send you his details so you can make a cheque directly for
him. Even a small contribution would I am sure touch this guys life in a
meaningful way! :)

Also if anyone has any other ideas of associations, organizations that can
help please let me know!

Warm Regards,
Priyanka
