Affus Woman Welfare Association (AWWA) is a Non-Profit Organization in
Nalgonda District Working in Andhrapradesh and karnataka , Providing Charitable Services in the Districts of Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar and Gadag and Raichur and Bagal Kot in karnataka people are affected by floods..
Unprecedented floods in the Krishna river basin in Andhra Pradesh state in india on Friday heaped misery on lakhs of people in Kurnool and Mahabubnagar districts. Kurnool, a city with a population of nearly five lakh, bore the brunt of the flood fury as water reached the first storey of several buildings. There were heart-rending scenes of people frantically seeking assistance to rescue them, but the government did not have sufficient number of boats or men to help them. It is estimated that about 40,000 people had taken shelter on the rooftops. Much of the misery was caused by Tungabhadra and Handri rivers, tributaries of the Krishna, which rose menacingly throughout the day bringing Kurnool and Mantralayam, the seat of Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, under a sheet of water. Several places in Mantralayam were under ten feet of water and the temple pontiff Swami Sushmendra was among the 15,000 odd people stranded in the town. The floods inundated about 100 villages in Kurnool and Mahabubnagar districts. Many of them lay completely submerged while traffic on the Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highway 7 came to a grinding halt as the road breached near Beechupally, between Jadcherla and Kurnool. In Mahabubnagar district, about 50 villages.

Donating to AID India -
From Mallika
Hi everyone, You may have heard about the tremendous damage being caused by floods in Andhra Pradhesh and Karnataka(southern part of India). When I read about this online, I had two choices: read it and go back to my usual day OR start to raise some funds! I chose to do the latter and I need your help. Go to http://www.aidindia.org and donate any amount large or small. On the Donate page, make sure to choose "Common Pool" and "All India Relief Fund" in the dropdown boxes. All donations are 100% tax deductible. Lets remember that people in these areas make less in a day than we spend on a coffee. Please forward as appropriate. Thanks in advance, Mallika PS: Read more about the floods here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33176900/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia/ It is said to be the worst flood in decades, leaving 250 people killed and 2.5 millions left homeless!!

Dear Donors, I am the State Secretary,Chand Minority Welfare Association, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, A Social Service Society Regd No:691/2000 in Andhra Pradesh and I need the help in collboration with regarding the Flood Panic on 02-10-2009 in our state in Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar districts. I am giving the detail report and you can see it. Kurnool town on Friday night was in the imminent danger of being completely submerged with flood water at some places getting more than 10 feet deep. By Saturday afternoon, the town is likely to be sumberged under as much as 15-20 feet of water, putting into peril the lives of over two lakh people. Many were feared dead. The state government threw up its hands in despair and said the relief work could start only from Saturday. Along with Kurnool town, the pilgrim centre of Mantralayam bore the brunt of the flood fury on Friday with the overflowing Tungabhadra and Handri rivers inundating the two towns. Faced with the unprecedented flooding, the state government on Friday could only hope for better weather conditions. "Inclement weather is hampering both dropping of food packets as well as rescuing the marooned people. This is perhaps the worst floods in the history of the state. Although the inflows from Karnataka abated by Friday evening, Srisailam will still receive about 12 lakh cusecs of water by Saturday, thus increasing storage level to 893 feet while Full Storage Level is only 885 feet. As a result, the government on Friday night had no option but to open all the 12 crest gates at Srisailam. Thus by Saturday afternoon, the inflow of Krishna water downstream from Srisailam reservoir to Nagarjunsagar dam and further down to Prakasam barrage is expected to flood Vijayawada town and parts of Krishna and Guntur districts. By Saturday night, Prakasam barrage would have received 8-9 lakh cusecs of water, something unprecedented in recent history. The usual capacity of water received at the barrage is not more than 4-5 lakh cusecs. Panic has gripped Vijayawada residents in the wake of the devastation. The state government on Friday night directed the Krishna district administration to evacuate people, if necessary by force, from the low-lying areas of Vijayawada town. In this connection i request Donors to help flood Vitim through medicines, cloths, benshets, Food items, etc & any Donation send on Chand Minority Welfare Association, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh on A/C No.354602010008315 of Union Bank of India, Kurnool (A.P) come forward for distribution. for any query call on 91-9441612957, 91-9505193171 Faiyaz Basha Secretary, Chand Minority Welfare Association Regd.No.691/ 2000 Office No.41-419, Kotha Peta Kurnool-518001 Andhra Pradesh India cmwa_association@yahoo.com faiz_knl@yahoo.com
