Subject: Needed Funding for a student focussed IT journal

Sub : Request for Financial support to an innovative Computer Literacy
program.

Dear Sir,

Congratulation from "Computer O Bigyan"

This is an initiative to promote computer education among students from
high school and under graduate colleges with particular emphasis on
scheduled population in remote areas of the state of Orissa had gained
momentum during the year 1998 to 2006. This we did through the
publication of a popular Oriya monthly journal titled " Computer O
Bigyan" from our own small resources. This very well proved to be an
interactive forum for students and popular science writers of the State
including science faculties and institutions. For the purpose we were
providing the journal free of cost to the marginal segment of the
students in tribal pockets of the state.

But such important activity which was dear to our heart could not
continue due to financial crunch and stopped for last three years. There
fore we now propose to revive the publication with a minimum external
assistance from charitable groups or foundations promoting such agenda.

This in an introduction letter for the program. If you appreciate our
intention kindly acknowledge, after which we will send the detail
proposal and sample copy of the journal for your kind consideration.

Looking forward to your favourable reply.

Thanking You.

Hey Chandni,
Attached is the profile of this Adventure club called Nature Lover's which is based in Malad, Mumbai. They are organising the West Zonal Climbing Competition at the Arun Samant Cimbing wall at Nandadeep High School, Goregon(E), Mumbai. They are looking to raise funds for the same.Sponsorships are welcome.A clear break up of the approximate budget is attached.
This is not a "social" interest thing as such, but for us adventure lovers, well, "the wall" has been a lifesaver where we go to climb when we can't go to the natural rocks. The staff at the wall are all volunteers whose sole interest after a tiring day at work is to help us novices improve our"moves" at the wall in the right spirit:)
See if you can find some enthusiastic people/organisations to help further cause of adventure lovers!!!

Tuition Centres for School Kids - Tamil Nadu

From vikram.j@hihseed.org
Oct 9, 2009

Child Labour Elimination Programme
Budget : Rs. 3.57 Lakhs

To supplement governmental efforts, Hand in Hand, Tamil Nadu will run evening tuition centres for primary school children from December 2009.

To first enable children (who would otherwise drop out of school) to read fluently and perform simple mathematical operations (using resources developed by Ramanujam Centre for Mathematics Education), by introducing an accelerated learning programme developed by Aid India in evening tuition centres, and help them enjoy learning through fun and activities.

One of the major reasons for children dropping out is the poor quality of learning in schools. Children find the school environment boring. They do not see value in the education that they receive there, as they are unable to participate effectively in the learning process. Thus, although the state has been able to largely address the problem of access, there continue to be very serious learning quality issues across the state.

Other Basic Problem:

1. Ineffective teaching Methodology
2. Lack of learning resources
3. No focus (by the schools) on ensuring basic skills
4. Ambiguous definition of quality
5. Low community involvement

We will conduct thorough and systematic village surveys in a campaign mode, thereby mapping school going and out-of-school children (children involved in child labour) as well as invisible children.

Beneficiaries:

All children will be able to read Tamil (their mother tongue) fluently in the first five months. Focus will be on learning skills and providing an enabling environment for self study.
All students will have high motivation levels and confidence at the end of the first five months. Focus will be on creating a child-friendly environment.
Involvement will be elicited from (and responsibilities taken up by) all stake holders like teachers, headmasters, parents, panchayat leaders and community.
Reading daily lessons will become a habit for all children.
Tuition centres will prepare children to face challenges posed in school.
It will also help them cope with day-to-day lessons. Children lagging behind or who need assistance to try and pass the exam will be benefited.
All children will be in school without any of them dropping out. This scheme will also reduce the tendency of children and the parents sending off children to work due to poor performance in studies.

Each student's reading and math skill level will be assessed and they will be grouped according to their learning levels.

A mid evaluation and post evaluation will be done for every child coming to the centre regularly to track their progress.

Hand in Hand will run 30-40 tuition centres in two blocks of Kancheepuram district, Kattankulathur and St. Thomas Mount. Each centre will cater to 25-30 students and will be open from 5 pm to 7 pm Monday - Saturday. A part-time teacher will be trained and appointed to teach in each centre.

Total Expenditure for 30 centres with about 900 children for ONE YEAR is INR 357,500 (Three lakh fifty seven thousand and five hundred rupees).

I believe i have given the detailed required for my Child labour education and elimintation programe. It would be great if you pass on this information to all the CSR and donors so that they can help us. If you need more information. You can reach me at +91-9941906844 or at vikram.j@hihseed.org
