Counselling and E-trading Centres for Farmers - Maharashtra

From Devendra Kshirsagar sahyadri.india@gmail.com
Nov 10, 2009

Sponsors needed for counseling centre & 24x7 hr helpline for farmers & established e-trading centre at Narkhed

In the year 2008-2009, 1760 Farmers committed suicide in Vidharbha Region out of which 316 are from Nagpur District. In Nagpur District, Narkhed Taluka is most affected by farmers’ suicide.

Farmers’ suicide is main problems of Vidharbha Region of Maharashtra and Nagpur is one of most affected District of Vidharbha Region. We are working here in grass root level. As per our studied, main cause of their suicide are following • lack of awareness of good quality seeds • a money-lender, private societies • not using advance process in place of traditional process • not fulfill of farmers dream due to climate change (Improper rain/very less or more rain/diseases)

We are well familiar with farmers’ suicide problems. Out of the many causes, maximum number of suicide is due to availability of duplicate and costlier seeds of Cotton, Wheat, Soya bean like BANNI, RAASHI etc. To fulfill their dreams and to marry his daughter in good manner, most of the farmers purchase these seeds for more production. For purchasing these costlier seeds (as these seeds are nearly 4 times costlier than normal available seeds in market), farmers take loan from local money-lender or private societies. Most of the farmers are poor, less land owner (non-irrigated land) and for fulfill their dreams they hire another farmers land. But due to not suitable climate & absorbing maximum disease, these seeds fail to give appropriate production even in loss which affects farmers dream. Due to maximum time demanding loan money from money-lender and private societies, these farmers choose easy way that is SUICIDE because farmers are ambitious and self respected person. In their word, “Niche Munddi Karke Jine Se Achha Vo Marna Pasand Karte Hai”.

We want to start implementing this INNOVATIVE project from Narkhed Taluka of Nagpur District. In our projected vision we want to change farmers from traditional to advance till 2015 by covering Maharashtra state. By end 2015, all farmers of Maharashtra State will use e-trading for selling their farm product through internet. In England, farmers are using e-trading for selling their own farms materials. European and U.S. farmers are well developed than Indian Farmers. Before 2 year, very less farmers were avail about “How to use Mobile” but now maximum farmers are using mobile and they learn how to use it as they are not much more educated. Simillarly our NGO want to introduce importance of E-TRADING to Farmers for their development and we will start these activities from Narkhed Taluka which has total population 1,43,512.

Budget: Rs 25 lakhs

Cost: • Estimated budget for e-trading centre at Narkhed Rs.1.5 lakhs per year • Estimated budget for 24x7 hr helpline for farmers Rs.1.5 lakhs per year • Estimated budget for Counseling centre Rs.2 lakhs per year

Domestic Help's Son's Education - Bihar

From: Priyanka Dalal <priyankawriting@gmail.com>
Date: Mon, 9 Nov 2009
Subject: for Fund a Cause

Hello,

For fund a cause:

I have a domestic help who comes from a small village in Bihar. He works
from 6 in the morning (car-washing) to 11 at night (washing vessels).
Domestic helpers don't get any holidays in India, so he is working this way
7 days a week. He earns about 6000 per month.
He has a son in 12th STD, studying in a Bihar city close to his village. His
education alone costs about 4000 a month including lodging, food and
education fees.

Needless to say he barely saves anything. He is already 40+. Would be really
good if we could raise some money for him, so as to aid his sons education
and also for him and his wife who is in the village alone, this way they can
have some sort of money in their old age!

You can contact me at priyankawriting@gmail.com, if you are interested in
chipping in I can send you his details so you can make a cheque directly for
him. Even a small contribution would I am sure touch this guys life in a
meaningful way! :)

Also if anyone has any other ideas of associations, organizations that can
help please let me know!

Warm Regards,
Priyanka
